3 Intense Sweaty Workouts

Hello Fit Babes:

Sticking to a workout routine can really show results and push you in your fitness journey, but that can potentially get boring at times. That’s why it’s important to add in some intense, body shocking workouts. These will break your normal routine and work new muscle groups, which will hopefully show more results. I thought I could share a couple of my favorite intense workouts that I do when I really want to sweat. I also do these workouts when I feel bloated or sluggish, it really kicks my body back into gear. These are great to add to your routine, but they aren’t meant to be done everyday.

Intense Workout #1 | Hey Miss New Booty

You’ll need a gym with a stair master!

StairMaster: 15-20 minutes

3 to 5 minute warm up |  Level: 8-10

3 to 5 sprints for 30 second each | Level: 20 or your personal max

*Break for 30 seconds to 1 minute between each. The sprints truly burn but you have to push through at least 3 to really reap the benefits of this exercise.

3 sets of kickbacks for 30 seconds | Level: 8

*This is a booty burner, simply kick each leg back and step on every other step.

3 sets of 30 second side climb | Level: 13

*Walking sideways on each side counts as one set.

You may also take breaks in between the other exercises, but I usually do a set of kickbacks combined with the sideways walking then take a small break. Do what’s best for your fitness level. I usually complete a few intense ab exercises after too!

Intense Workout #2 | The Girl Next Door

Utilize your neighborhood or local park for this one!

8-10 hill climbs | Try to do this pretty continuous

1 to  2 mile run/walk | Try to run for the whole 1st mile

10-15 stair sprints | Do five then take a 1 minute break, repeat until you reach 10 or 15

Workout #3 | Sweaty Yogi

Attend a hot yoga class!

Hot yoga is actually such a sweaty, intense workout, especially if you partake in a vinyasa session. Vinyasa is a constant movement through different yoga poses. I remember when I first did one of these classes, I left dripping sweat and I was sore for the next two days. It literally shocked my body. I LOVED IT!

Just Start!

Hello Lovely Human:

Over the past couple of months, I have been really getting into becoming super healthy and fit. After I quit cheerleading back in 2015, I disliked going to the gym and my motivation to workout began to slip away. I would have spurts where I would workout for a couple of weeks but quickly get bored and just stop going. I couldn’t stick with it.

Well throughout this past semester, I became really lethargic and every meal I ate hurt my stomach. I couldn’t figure out the issue. Stress was probably one factor but there was more to the story. I also started to notice my muscle tone and strength deteriorate. That’s how I knew I had to make a change somewhere. It started out a slow process, but then I got completely inspired by an Australian YouTuber. Her positive message and motivation to live a healthy lifestyle truly inspired me.

I knew that was my moment. I had to make a change or I would continue to feel lethargic and weak. Within the first few weeks of working out and eating healthier, I saw a difference in my mood and my energy level. There were no serious changes, but a noticeable difference in how I felt.

Just Start!

The message for you today is: just start! No matter what goal you are trying to reach, the first step to success in that goal is simply starting.

I never thought I would finally get motivated enough to be excited about going to the gym or enjoy eating a salad for lunch. It’s all about figuring out what works for you and finding what motivates you to live a healthy lifestyle.

Yes, I have been more involved with fitness but beyond working out and getting lean, my focus is on feeling great and being happy. When you feel sick after almost every meal and you have zero energy, you aren’t happy. That’s what changed my mind and sparked my motivation. I could either continue to feel the way I did or I could make a change.

and now…

Today, it’s still a work in progress. I’m not jacked or ripped, I’m not super disciplined and I don’t always eat clean. I’m human and I’m not perfect. My goal isn’t to be crazy about my diet and body. It’s to be healthy and happy. I want to feel good, and sometimes eating pizza makes me feel good. A healthy lifestyle isn’t always about eating super clean and hitting the gym everyday, it’s what ever makes your body feel best.

So, my advice for you if you are thinking about starting your fitness journey or starting any goal really, just start. Once you begin, you will find inspiration or motivation that will continue to push you. Do it for yourself and do it because you want to.

Once you find that one thing that inspires you, you will began to see results. Many people fail at their goals because they enter with a negative attitude. If you are not enjoying the process, then you will not see results. It has been proven that when you find the process or activity to be pleasurable, you are more successful in reaching your goals.

How to Throw Kindness like Confetti

Hello Pretty People:

As I was thinking about what to write next for you guys, I was thinking about the topic of paying it forward and being kind to one another. This topic isn’t unfamiliar on PYM and I don’t expect to change that. In the wake of the recent events in Manchester, I think a post on kindness is needed more than ever. As hate continues to spread through our world, we must push back with more kindness and positivity.

A sad reality of terrorism is that there is no real way to stop attacks because they come unexpectedly. That’s probably the point but we must combat these acts of evil with acts of kindness. As I mentioned, promoting kindness and positivity is not a new concept on my blog but it is time to take it to the next level. I think life is just easier when you are kind to everyone and you are positive about every situation.

So, I decided to share five easy ways to be kind on a daily basis.

5 Ways to be Kind

Compliment (not just appearance):

It’s easy to compliment someone’s appearance, but it’s more meaningful to compliment their character or something they have chosen to be. Rather than commenting on appearance, something they don’t necessarily have control of, compliment their style or their personality. Examples could be “you’re so thoughtful” or “it’s really nice to see you today”. These are slightly different compliments that can really change someone’s day.

Buy someone’s coffee:

As a college student my budget doesn’t always account for this one; but when you are able to, it’s an easy way to brighten someone’s day. It’s always a surprise when someone does this for me, and it usually encourages me to pass on the good vibes to others.

Tell people you are thankful for them:

A lesson we can take from tragic events like the other night is life is too short. It’s hard to grasp that concept that everyday is not promised. On the days you do think of how precious life is, remember to thank those who are close to you. Tell people you are thankful for them. Even if you are at work and someone helps you complete a task, let them know how grateful you are to work with them. It’s nice to know you are wanted and your efforts are noticed.

Share your favorite positive quote:

I love finding positive quotes on Pinterest and sharing them with my friends and family. I love the inspirational and motivational power that a quote can have. It’s always nice when friends share quotes with me too because I feel like they always come at the best times. It’s hard to constantly motivate and inspire yourself. This is why it feels good to have that support from friends and family.

Say “I love you”:

In life, we are constantly searching for love and acceptance from others, whether we would like to admit it or not. It is what we were rewarded with as kids and as we grow up we continue to seek that love. Don’t pass up a chance to say “I love you” to the people who may need to hear it. Everyday we all struggle to be the best person we can be in hopes we will be recognized by the ones we love. Don’t miss your chance to share the love and let someone know how special they are to you. Don’t be so afraid of love.

These are just some of my favorite ways to spread a little kindness to the people around me. Being kind isn’t too hard, and when you are kind to others they tend to keep the kindness ball rolling.

Although there may be hate in our world, I challenge you to fight it with kindness. I challenge you to implement one of these things above and see how many people’s days you can brighten by doing so.

10 Tips for Traveling Abroad

Hello Beautiful Souls,

It’s hard to believe it’s almost been a year since I left for study abroad and spent about two months in France. It feels like only a few months ago that I was hopping on a plane out of here. I think about my trip everyday; it’s no joke when people say traveling changes your life. This study abroad trip was not the first time I had been to Europe, but it was definitely the most memorable and longest I have ever been overseas.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have had a bunch of friends jet setting and reaching out to me for some tips and tricks about overseas travel. I love answering and giving them any advice that I have because I am so passionate about traveling and I want everyone to know how to fully experience life abroad. So, since I have been thinking a lot about my trip lately and offering advice to my friends, I thought I should construct a post to give you a list of my favorite tips for traveling to Europe.

My Top 10 Tips for you:

  1. Utilize cash: Exchange rates differ all the time and the value of the currency can change often too. Banks can sometimes charge you when you use your card overseas, this can also differ too. When you withdraw cash there is usually a fee but if you withdraw large amounts it makes it more worth your money, rather than getting charged each time you use your card. This also allows you to split restaurant bills with friends and avoid being in an emergency situation with no money.
  2. Take videos: Pictures are wonderful and I took over 1,000 on my trip, but videos really capture the moments. The sounds can bring back lots of feelings and memories. I took so many random videos abroad and I love them all. They help me relive some moments and it helps me share the vibes with others. It’s also lots of fun to make a cool video after your trip.
  3. Collect little things: When you’re traveling, you will probably stop at a lot of different places. Throughout my trip I collected business cards, coffee cup wraps and other little things. I kept these things in my journal and now when I look back I am able to remember the names of the places I visited and it retains the memories associated with it.
  4. Enjoy the moment: It’s easy to want to post constant snap chats and Instagram stories, but don’t forget to be present. Don’t get wrapped up watching what people are doing at home. You do not want to miss a moment during your travels. Take a little time each night to update social media and check in with home, but don’t waste time on it when you are out and about. Enjoy where you are, fully!
  5. Say yes!: Okay, so you are taking an adventure of a lifetime, now is not the time to be hesitant to new things. Obviously don’t do anything that will put your life in danger or get you into legal trouble; but, take this magical opportunity to live a little. Say yes to adventures and new things. Crush your comfort zone and live to the fullest.
  6. Talk to strangers: Your parents have probably always told you the opposite of this but talking to strangers abroad can teach you a lot and enlighten you on other cultures. There are few things to be aware of when doing this though; be aware of the situations you are in, what your surroundings are and who the stranger may be. Avoid chatting with people on public transportation, it’s best to keep to yourself then. But, if you see other students out and about, try to strike up a conversation with them. If you are taking classes abroad, meet people in your classes and around your school.
  7. Don’t over pack shoes: This one may seem a bit random, but for the ladies, it’s easy to think you need 100 pairs of shoes for every occasion abroad. Honestly, three pairs is probably enough. Take shoes for everyday wear and that are comfortable. Take a pair for going out and looking super cute, and throw in a pair of tennis shoes or flats.
  8. Don’t buy too much for others: I may sound a little harsh with this one, but don’t over buy gifts for people at home. They didn’t take the trip you did, therefore they won’t cherish the gifts as much. Of course you should get your family something small and get your closest friends something too! Just don’t spend too much time or money worrying about what to get everyone and their mother back home. Get things that will help you remember the trip.
  9. Shop locally: It may seem comfortable to stick to what you know, but try to expand your horizons abroad and try locally made things. I know when I stayed in Nice, there were a couple clothing stores that we had back home (H&M, Zara, etc.) and those can be fun to check out, but make sure you hit up some new places and explore what the country has to offer. You will find so many unique styles. Why would you want to buy something you can buy in your native country?!
  10. Eat native foods: This relates to the last one, but try local favorites. When traveling abroad, food can be tricky because flavors and cooking techniques may be different. This makes stepping outside of the usual a little more difficult. Do what is best and healthy for you, but don’t forget to experiment and try what’s out there. I recommend French wine and Escargo (snails), if you are traveling to France.

These are just a few of my favorite tips to share with those who ask. Traveling to new places is fun and exciting. If you are about to take a trip, near or far, I wish you the best in your travels. Seeing new cultures and being in a sea of strangers is life changing, in my opinion. You will become so open-minded and life will become much more valuable.

Realizing the Beauty of Life

Hello Lovely People,

Today I wanted to write freely on a topic that came to mind yesterday.

 

Yesterday, I spent the day with my boyfriend hiking the Rosy Mound dune near Lake Michigan. The weather was just perfect for this, we were goofing around on the trail and just enjoying each others company. When we reached this lookout point, we crossed paths with this grandpa and grandson duo. They were also were enjoying the warm Michigan weather (which is rare!). The difference between us and them was the fact that the young boy was blind and his grandpa was guiding him through the trail, up and down the many stairs. As the young boy reached the beach lookout area, where we were resting, he grew with excitement when he heard the waves. They took a seat near us and continued to converse about different things.

The reason I am sharing this is because sometimes we take the simplest things for granted and we complain about so many small things. This young boy who is unable to even see the beauty of the beach was completely excited and positive about the experience. He spoke with so much spirit and he was very curious about many things. His attitude for life made me realize how much some of us take life for granted.

This is not a post to make you feel bad or guilty, it’s to bring attention to the possibilities we have in life. Everyday we face hardships, some greater than others, be sure to prioritize the important things. Some hardships and negative situations aren’t worth your strength and stress. Some of us are more lucky than others and that doesn’t mean we should be guilty, it means we should realize the life we have in front of us and live it fully and passionately.

That little boy doesn’t let his sight stop him from seeing the world and exploring. He is still curious to learn even though he may not be able to see things like we do. The lesson I take from him is to never stop being curious about life, no matter what tries to stand in your way. Whether it’s people, disabilities or your own doubts; never let something stop you from exploring and enjoying this wonderful life.

We all have the chance to create a beautiful life, and everyday you wake up you decide what you are going to do to make your day great or awful. Live with passion and spread positive vibes to everyone you meet.
