Yesterday, I was feeling a little bit anxious. Actually a lot of bit anxious. Let’s be real here!
I feel like lots of things have been going amazing in my life, which is great. However, there will always be things there to pull you down. I mean that’s just life, ya know?
So, although things have been going amazing for me, I have had some stressful stuff going on behind the scenes. I don’t like conflict because that is one of my anxiety triggers, I do all I can to keep the peace, even if that means blaming myself. Lately, I’ve had some conflict arise in my life and it’s making me stressed and anxious.
Valentine’s Day has just passed and love is in the air, right!?
Hopefully you saved some love for yourself. Valentine’s Day is more than just celebrating relationships with boys (or girls), it’s about celebrating friendships and the relationship with yourself. Why not use this hallmark holiday as an excuse to spread even more love and positivity!?
In light of the day, I wanted to share why I think it is important to make room for self-love in your own life.
As a current college student, I know all about what I’m “supposed” to do. There is a list of things I should be doing for future employers to notice me, expectations I need to meet and organizations I need to be a part of to “set myself apart.” I’m using quotations because I find this stuff to be humorous. We follow so closely behind the group mentality.
All last semester, I was feeling this pressure to stack my schedule with extra curricular activities and events. Although those can be great and super helpful, they are not your only key to success, which I learned like 10 minutes ago. Okay, maybe longer than that but my point is that you do not have to follow the same path as everyone. Actually, you shouldn’t be doing that. Everyone else around you, especially in college, is taking that same route. What you should be doing is attending events that intrigue your personal interests and passions. You should be taking opportunities that help you apply your skills and grow them.
Hello Lovely People,
I’m so glad you opened this post because today’s topic is something I think we can all relate to.
Life is all about perspective. Each of us experience many different things and it’s not what happens to us that matters but how we handle it that shows our true character. Lately, you may have noticed that I have been experiencing some lows, and if you have not noticed, let me fill you in briefly.
My grandfather is very ill and his time is now limited. My relationship with my dad isn’t great. I’ve lost a couple close friends. Blah, blah, blah. Stuff like this has been occurring in my life over the past few months. Tiring, yes but not the end of the world.
If I’m being honest, it’s made me be a little down in the deeps lately, which is not like me. But, I’ve realized I can change this. I could change this by changing my perspective on most of these things.
Once again, life is about how we handle the things that come our way rather than the actual things. I can continue to let this stuff take up negative space in my head or I can stop and see the positives in my life. Although life throws us all a solid set of challenges, it also has many beautiful moments that we cannot neglect in times of negativity.
Take time to appreciate the little things around you:
- The sun peeking through the blinds each morning
- A cup of coffee on a chilly morning
- Watching the clouds move above you
- Favorite songs
- Looking up at the stars
- A hot shower after a long day
- Compliments from a stranger
- The rain hitting your skin
It can be hard to step back and appreciate these things sometimes but it is important to. Appreciating the little things makes the big things not so “big”. Each of us encounter struggles and challenges in our lives, and these things can take a toll on us. Become aware of the good around you.
I understand life can get hectic sometimes but you have to be able to separate that in your mind. Far more good things happen throughout our lives than bad. Take time to accept what’s happening to you but don’t stay in that low place. Move forward with a grateful heart.
Thank you for reading PYM! I’m planning some new projects that I will share with you guys in the upcoming months. Stay tuned.
