Fall to Winter Fashion on a Budget

Hello Pretty People,

I’ve had many people ask me where I get my clothes, and I’d like to think I follow fashion fairly well. I love keeping up with trends and incorporating some of my own. Although I love clothes, it can be expensive to keep up with every trend, especially as a college student. Not everyone has a budget that allows for shopping every season. So, I’ve decided to create little guide for the girls like me!

Now, I know we always see these types of posts on “fashion for college students” and then it shows $100 leggings and $150 rain boots that you actually cannot afford. You know exactly what I mean…

Well, this is not that fashion guide. This is for the legit college girl who cannot afford fancy clothing brands just yet. We will get there one day, but we got to get the degree first. These are the ways that I stay on top of fashion without breaking the bank.

Shop Deals:

The number one way I can afford fashionable pieces is by shopping deals and sometimes shopping out of season. For example, I found these super cute grey booties at a boutique in the Spring, they were only $20 but I knew they were perfect for Fall. Now, they are one of my staples for the Fall + Winter.

I love brands, but sometimes the best way to shop is by style not brand. Stores like Zara + H&M may not scream rich girl, but you can find all the same trends as the high fashion brands at these stores.

Jeans/pants aren’t seasonal:

There is nothing better than a new pair of jeans. But, one tip I recommend is not buying jeans every season. Sure, there will be styles you will want to purchase but jeans are timeless for the most part. A light wash, a dark wash, a ripped jean and a colored jean; that’s all you need to survive. Jeans are jeans, no one will notice if they are new or old.

Jeans are one thing I will spend more money on. High quality jeans last a long time and as I said, the don’t really change too much. Unlike a shirt, jeans cross seasonal trends well. Any unique style pants are a great way to mix it up too!

Shop Styles:

I mentioned this tip in the first point, but I am mentioning it again because it’s not always about the brand name. If you like Steve Madden shoes, check out Target for similar styles. If you like J. Crew stuff, check out Old Navy. If you are looking for modern trends like Gucci or Burberry, check out Zara or H&M. I found a quilted vest, cashmere (look alike) sweater and a black + white flannel all under $50 at Old Navy. I also snagged some Steve Madden looking sneakers from Target for only $20. They are all great quality too!

Something Borrowed:

A final tip is to borrow items from a friend or family member. This is not something I do on a daily basis, but when I am attending an event or something special, I will sometimes ask a friend for an outfit. Instead of spending $50-$100 on a new dress, I’ll shop my besties closet to see if there is something that fits the occasion. If I’m going out and feel bored with my own clothes, I will sometimes ask to borrow something too! It’s an option if you are really looking for something new but do not have the money.

I will share some of these items below, along with outfit ideas. Simply click on the brand name in the parenthesis to shop for yourself.

My Fall to Winter Outfits

Black + White Flannel (Old Navy, $15), AE Ripped Jeans (Similar AE Style, $30),

Grey Wool Hat (Similar Style, $20)

Caramel V-Neck Sweater (Old Navy, $12.50), Olive Green Quilted Vest (Old Navy, $17), Same AE Jeans, Boutique Blanket Scarf (Similar Style, $17)& TOMS Wedges (Similar, $50)

Turtle Neck (Gap, $17) & same Green Vest from above

These outfits shared above are all basically using the same pieces. I wanted to show you how it easy it can be to style just a few basic pieces. This vest allows you to mix up any outfit. I wore it with three different pieces here; paired with a turtle neck, a sweater and a flannel (not pictured). You can also layer with the flannel, although it is not shown above, I could easily layer the flannel over my sweater. I also accessorized with my blanket scarf, which is another Fall/Winter wardrobe staple. This wool grey hat has also been my go-to accessory for the season. It not only covers a bad hair day, but it also protects your hair from the wind and rain (it’s been a rainy season in Michigan). Plus it’s pretty cute!

Once again, most of these tops were under $20 and they are easy to mix and match. My jeans are from last Fall, proving my point you do not need brand new jeans. My TOM wedges are about 2 years old too! These are my favorite Fall shoe, along with my pair of grey booties I mentioned earlier.

Being fashionable does not have to be expensive. You just have to be confident in your style and realize you may not be able to afford everything you want. I always say it’s not about where you get the clothes but how you style them that matters. Whether you shop at Goodwill or Prada, if you wear it proud, no one will question you.

I proudly wear my inexpensive clothing because I’m not worried about attaching my identity to a brand. I don’t need brands to define my personality or style, and neither do you. Just wear what makes you feel most beautiful and comfortable.

I planned to make a video with this post, but with the rainy weather we’ve experienced in the mitten, I had no luck. I hope you still enjoy this post and I hope it works as a guide. These are just my fashion secrets on a budget. Shh…don’t tell anyone šŸ˜‰

Pumpkin Patch Proof Outfit for Fall

Fall Date

Hello Babes,

Today I am trying something a little different on PYM. I wanted to share an outfit idea with all of you. It’s been quite awhile since I’ve shared a fashion post with you, and I wanted to test it out again. So, if you like this style post and would like to see more fashion/style posts from me, please let me know!

My blog started on fashion, and I still love dressing up and skimming Vogue magazines. I just have found more passion and engagement in writing about real life stuff. I always strive to share authentic topics and stories with you gals. However, I’m happy to bring back the fashion piece if I see enough push back.

This outfit is super simple and easy for almost anyone to put together.

Fall Outfit

American Eagle Boyfriend Flannel // American Eagle Dark Wash Jeans // Boutique Booties // Tart Hat // Assorted Kate Spade Bracelets

My boyfriend, David, and I visited a local farm last Saturday to pick pumpkins. We got donuts, picked out our massive pumpkins, took fun photos and then carved the pumpkins. The weather was perfect, and this outfit was very versatile for the day.

This outfit can easily be to put together from any closet. You can make it your own with different accessories. I paired mine with this cute grey hat! Depending on the weather, a chunky blanket scarf may be suitable.

The secret to my outfit is that it does not have to be name brand. I prefer American Eagle denim but you can wear your favorite pair of jeans with this outfit. A flannel can be bought at any store you please, even a resale shop. Don’t limit yourself to high priced fashion items, it’s all about how you style something that matters.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and if you would like to see more fashion post, please let me know. Thank you for reading today!

Holiday Outfit Guide: Christmas Time

Hello Babes,

I am beyond excited to share this post with all of you because it includes some of my favorite fashionable friends. You are in for a treat! I wanted to bring my friends into this post because everyone has a different sense of style, and I hope this post can meet some of your style tastes. This allows for you to see all sorts of winter fashion options if you are looking to switch up your wardrobe or if you need some outfit inspiration for that family Christmas party.

Some of the girls shared two looks with me, and other just shared one; I love all of their outfit choices! This guide is geared toward the winter season, but it is also perfect for those Christmas festivities with family and friends. I will first share the looks the girls shared with me, then I will share two of my own looks. Let’s get started:

Holiday Outfit Guide

Ivana: Polka Dots & Grey Hues

Ivana chose to pair an adorable polka dot sweater with an edgy leather jacket, she also added cold weather accessories to spice up the outfit look. I adore the hats with the pompoms on them, they add a chic style to any winter outfit. I met Ivana earlier this semester and I immediately loved her sense of style, it is trendy yet so unique. I love the way she can style any piece to perfection. I think the outfit she shared is perfect for that chilly day on campus or a stroll downtown. I absolutely love it!

Kolby: Cozy Flannel & Dark Wash Jeans

Kolby’s outfit is the perfect for a cold winter day; she layered a cozy flannel over a white shirt and topped the outfit off with the popular bean boots and a warm scarf. When you live in a chilly state like Michigan, this outfit is the ultimate go-to. It keeps you looking cute and cozy, while actually keeping you warm. I also met Kolby earlier this semester and I loved her style. I think that we have a very similar style, I would always catch her wearing some of my fashion favorites like flannels and statement necklaces. I was so excited when she agreed to participate in this post. I would define Kolby’s style as cute and casual; she always looks super cute and chic while always looking comfortable in everything she wears. I love that!

Festive Green Top & a Statement Necklace

The second outfit Kolby shared is perfect for going out to dinner with the family or spending some time shopping with the girls. I love the simplicity of this outfit, it is easy to pick out and go, but it has the statement necklace to spice it up. Adding a statement necklace to a plain shirt is the perfect way to give an outfit some finishing touches. I also like that she paired this outfit with tall rider boots. Another benefit of keeping it simple is the freedom to change up your shoe choice. You can pick any shoe that will meet your specific style.

Tessa: Layered Sweater & Bean Boots

Tessa loves to layer; Tessa is always wearing the most perfect outfits. She is the master of combiningĀ cozy & chic. In this picture she is pairing a denim button up with a cozy cable knit sweater. This is one of my favorite layering techniques. Unseen in this image, Tess is wearing dark wash jeans paired with bean boots. Like Kolby, she brings that cozy look to a chic level. Tessa is a very busy individual, and her Apple Watch is a huge staple piece to her wardrobe. I love that she has that signature piece as well; this makes her style so unique. I have known Tess for about 3 years, we use to cheer together at our university but now we are blogging besties. She always accomplishes a very stylish, finished look. Even when she is “bumming” it, she is totally put together. I adore her style and I often get inspiration for my own outfits from her. If you are more interested in her style and life, check out her personal blog atĀ Simply Tess.

Lyss: Herrringbone Vest & Holiday Plaid Scarf

This is my new ultimate favorite outfit, it combines almost all of my favorite winter essentials. I absolutely love my blanket scarf because it is so warm and cozy. I highly recommend you purchase one. I actually borrowed this herringbone vest from my roomie and I fell in love with it. Vests are a key staple piece to your winter wardrobe. Along with the vest, I layered with my white knitted sweater and dark wash jeans. My boots resemble the popular bean boots but they are actually Sperry brand. I added my scarf in one look, but I also added one of my favorite statement necklaces to show you all the different possibilities with this outfit. I know I will be wearing this outfit a bunch on my holiday and out to winter activities. You can recreate this with your favorite sweater and any old vest.

Bright Flannel & Skater Skirt

Y’all know that I like to throw a fancy outfit in the mix. This is a great outfit for that holiday Christmas party or an evening out on the town. I have been styling similar outfits to this one for work, and I love them. In this specific look, I paired my favorite flannel with a black high-waisted skirt. Since it is chilly, and it finishes the look, I added black tights to the outfit. You can pair this with almost any boot or bootie, and of course, I paired mine with my favorite taupe wedges from TOMS shoes. I love this outfit and I will probably be wearing something similar to family holiday parties.

This post is my all time favorite because not only did I finally get to take my own outfit pictures but some of my fashionable friends were able to participate. I really hope you all love it as much as I do. Thank you for reading today and make sure you share this with all your fashionable friends. I would also love to hear which look is your favorite in the comments below. I apologize for the later posting times this week but it was final exam week here at my university. I have so many exciting posts prepared for the next few weeks, so make sure you subscribe to catch all the latest updates.

Don’t Give Up Now!

Hello Pretty People,

Well, we’ve reached that point of the semester where things are beginning to drag; we made it through October and we are half way through November, Christmas break is in sight! I had many ideas for what I wanted today’s post to be about, but I came to the conclusion that inspiration was needed. I have talked to so many people in the past few days that have told me they are ready for this semester to be over and I think we are all at that point. It’s easy to fall into a slump and get behind right now, but don’t give up now!

Today I am giving you a little pep talk to hopefully help you finish this week, and this semester, on a good note. First of all, everything is going to be okay. Everyone tells you this, I’m sure, but when haven’t things been okay? You are still here and you are still putting in an effort. That’s half the battle. Everything you are working to accomplish starts with your effort to try. If you fail from there, it wasn’t meant to be. Exams and Projects do not define you; grades and GPA’s won’t matter in 10 years. Remember this. Take the right steps to reach your goals, but do not over strain yourself. Your happiness and well being is more important than a homework grade.

This does not mean stop trying in school or give up effort, just know that things will turn out. If you do your best, that’s all you can do. Keep a positive mindset and tell yourself things will work out, and they will. When you tell yourself things are not going to work out and you’re going to fail your exams and you are too stressed, guess what? You will fail those exams and you will become over stressed. Mindset is everything.

Wake up, drink some coffee, throw on some of your favorite tunes and handle it. Keep pushing yourself, but don’t forget to take some breaks. Breaks are okay, giving up is not. It seems impossible until it’s done, and that is the mindset you have to have right now. You are anticipating multiple deadlines and schedules, but until it’s done and over with, you will think it’s impossible. Tell yourself it is possible, you can achieve greatness, if you just believe in yourself.

Stop making excuses and start making goals; then smash these goals. What can you accomplish today to make the rest of the week easier? Finish the big things first, then move into the smaller tasks. Make it happen! Manage your time; give yourself time to rest but do not stop grinding toward your goals. BalanceĀ is key.

Don’t give up now! You’ve come so far and you are so close to finishing. Keep working hard and remember, you are capable of great things. Just believe in yourself, adjust your mindset and get shit done. Treat yourself to that coffee or a fancy dinner. Change up your study space. A new environment might help you think more clearly. Exclude yourself and focus. Include yourself and socialize. You are so close to the end, giving up now would just be silly. Now is the time to dig deep and give it your all. Remain calm and be positive. You are doing great! You will finish this semester and you will be okay. Everything will be okay.

Here are some pictures of cute animals to brighten your day:

img_4499

I hope this post can motivate you and inspire you to kick butt the rest of the semester. You can accomplish anything you put your mind to, so do not underestimate yourself. I believe in you and I don’t even know you, therefore, you can believe in yourself too. You got this! Thank you for reading today, if this post inspired or motivated you, make sure you share it with your friends. I will be kicking off my holiday series next week, so stay tuned for that. I am so excited to share the holiday’s with all my readers. Thank you again for stopping by PYM.

Make it happen.
